Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this stunning 1965 Factory Mustang GT four speed convertible which is in restored stock condition with low actual miles of 70,591. This Mustang GT features a beautiful repaint in factory Springtime Yellow with replacement decals and emblems, a fully restored interior, a strong running 289 engine, and numerous receipts/service records and past titles and ownership history. This Mustang was restored 30 years ago in the early 1990’s and still shows very well today which is a true testament to the excellent care this car has received with diligent past owners. Previous owner had this Mustang for 23 years and added only 2000 miles in that time frame. This Mustang is very solid with great lines and gaps with no visible rust on the body or underside. This Mustang is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Springtime Yellow over Black vinyl interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the door tag pictured above. This is a very sought after collectible Mustang being a Factory GT model with a manual transmission and especially with the convertible top.
“As I stated earlier this is a factory GT, as confirmed by the previous owner and these additional facts as found at www.kcode.net/GT65-66.htm
– The VIN has an A in the 5th character on the VIN stamped on the inside of the engine bay and on the driver’s door data plate. All GTs in 1965 had 4 barrel carburetors and those were only available with the A or K code engines.
– There are special reinforcements for the dual exhaust under the rear seat and in the rear frame rail. “Tribute” GTs will not have the reinforcements in the rear frame rail.
– It has front disc brakes and has the larger single master cylinder under the hood.
– When the fog light switch is turned on the rear lights light up as well. This is a condition only factory GTs have since that is how the car was wired when manufactured.
– The car has a faster steering box 16:1 ratio, larger sway bar, stiffer front coils and rear springs and heavy duty shock absorbers.
– Dual exhaust, GT emblems, GT stripes, Fog lights.”
Exterior
The Springtime Yellow exterior is in beautiful restored condition. This Mustang was treated to a professional repaint in factory Springtime Yellow with all new decals about 30 years ago. The paint is still in great condition and fresh and both bumpers are in great shape with no pitting or scratches in the chrome which shines wonderfully. The bumpers were both re chromed during the restoration and look near perfect now. The front grill and fog lights are all in excellent shape, but currently the right fog light is not shining, I plan to look more into that. There may be some minor imperfections that are not noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The BF Goodrich tires have excellent tread left and are less than one year old with around 200 miles on them and are sized 205/70/14. The 14″ wheels are brand new replacement wheels with new center caps and lug nuts at a cost of nearly $1400 dollars for tires and wheels. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in excellent condition. Trunk is very solid and clean and comes with a replacement trunk mat and tire cover and spare tire and jack. The gas tank was replaced during the restoration. As seen in the photos below this is a true GT model and the fog lights and tail lights come on together when the fog light toggle switch is turned on. The convertible top is in excellent condition and shows some wrinkles in the photos as it had not been in the up secured position for years prior to photos. Those wrinkles will work themselves out with time and being out in the sun.
Interior
The Black vinyl interior of this Mustang GT has been fully restored. The seat covers have been replaced and are like new with no noticeable wear anywhere. The carpet is like new as well with no stains, rips, or holes. The dash is in great condition with no cracks and the dash bezel is in great condition as well. The original AM stereo is still in place and works and thankfully the dash has not been cut for a modern stereo. The door panels have been replaced and are in like new condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The rally-pac tach and clock look great in the car and the tach works as it should. All interior lights and gauges work as they should, outside of the clock. The horn, stereo, wipers and heater also work. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever.
Mechanical
This Mustang GT is in excellent mechanical condition with only 70,591 actual miles. The believed to be original “A” code 289 engine was supposedly rebuilt during the restoration and the four speed original transmission was supposedly rebuilt as well. This Mustang just received nearly $2000 in maintenance in preparation for this sale. The rear breaks were serviced with new wheel cylinders and brake shoes. Pinion seal was replaced and new plugs and wires were installed. Tranny fluid was changed, rear differential fluid was changed, and coolant, brakes, and power steering were flushed. Oil and filter were also changed. We have driven this car numerous times and it always performs well, rides tight, and is always a joy to drive especially with the top down rowing through the gears. In the video one can observe this car running and driving with no excessive rattles or noises, and the car handles and performs well. This Mustang is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs excellent. The brakes do not pull and stop as they should and were recently serviced. True dual exhaust has been installed on this Mustang and it has an amazing exhaust note at idle and cruising speeds and no noticeable drone. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos.
