Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this 1981 Factory Y84 Special Edition with a replacement 400 Engine. This documented Y84 Trans Am is only 1 of 1160 ever built in its original configuration with an automatic transmission. This TA was treated to an engine upgrade with a nice running 400 Pontiac engine that was rebuilt. This special edition TA features Starlight Black paint with newer SE decals, a rarely seen standard cloth interior, an upgraded 400 engine, and the original window sticker and build sheet. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combinations of Starlight Black (code 19) over tan interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured above and factory build sheet. These special low production SE Trans Am’s are some of the most sought after collectible TA’s on the market. They continue to increase in value and desirability. This special edition TA was awarded first in its class at the Trans AM Nationals on 8/25/2024. The SE 2 class is for all special edition Tran Am’s with at least one modification from stock. See photos of award with this TA. Needless to say I was very proud to get this award with this SE TA.

Exterior

The Starlight Black exterior is in great overall restored condition. This Trans Am was treated to a repaint some years ago and new SE decals and pin stripping were added. The paint is in good overall condition with no signs of visible rust. The front bumper grills were replaced as was the front nose emblem. The underside is in very solid overall condition with no signs of patch panels or previous or current rust issues. The car was rust proofed when new which is evident on the underside of this car, as most of the original rust proofing is still in tact. There may be some minor paint imperfections that are not very noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The tires are newer and have full tread left and are sized 245/60/15 and the 8″ snowflake wheels are new replacement wheels with new center caps and lug nuts. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in great condition. Trunk is very solid and clean with a space saver spare tire, an original style felt trunk mat, the original jack, and original t tops bags. The original factory 6z9 speakers are still in the rear shelf and the original speaker insulation box is still in place.

Interior

The rarely seen standard tan cloth interior of this Trans Am is in really nice original condition. I have never seen this factory interior in a Special Edition TA. The original seat covers are in great overall condition with no major wear, no rips, no seam splits, or fading. The carpet is original and in good condition with no major stains, rips, or holes. The original dash is in great condition with no cracks, no warping, and no fading. The gold dash bezel looks great in the car. The original stereo works well and thankfully the dash was not cut on for a modern stereo. The original door panels are in good condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in great overall condition. The package tray is in great condition as well. All interior and exterior lights and gauges work as they should including the clock. The horn and blower motor both work. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever.

Mechanical

This Trans Am is in great mechanical condition and runs and drives well and has good power. The upgraded replacement 400 Pontiac engine runs great and has plenty of power and was rebuilt a few years ago. The Pontiac 400 engine came from a 1968 Pontiac GTO. An upgraded RPM Edlebrock intake was added and new HEI distributor with new plugs and wires were added. New Pontiac valve covers and gaskets were installed. A Holley Carb. was added. A restored automatic crate transmission was added when the 400 engine was installed. A mild shift kit was added. New rear leaf springs were added with new shocks. A new fuel pump was added. The brakes work well and stop as the should. The exhaust was replaced recently with true dual Megnaflow type mufflers with added headers and gives this TA a nice rumble at idle and cruising speeds. In the video one can observe this car running and driving and shifting through the gears. This Trans Am fires right up and holds idle quickly. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. Also, the engine bay is nicely detailed and clean. This is a factory NON AC car which really cleans up the engine bay and adds to performance.
