Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this one owner 1978 Pontiac Trans AM which is in superb original condition with very low actual miles of 10,307. This car drives like new as only a very low mile car can. This TA was purchased new in 1978 and owned by the same owner until 10/2019 when this TA and another of his muscle cars was traded in to buy a new Audi R8. This car is original down to the original tires which are still on the car and the original exhaust which is still on the car in working order. The original Pontiac 400 engine remains in the car and the vin on the engine block is numbers matching as well as the automatic transmission being numbers matching. This Trans AM features beautiful original Solar Gold paint, original decals, emblems and door moldings, an original near mint black interior, the original Pontiac 400 engine and automatic transmission, and the original factory build sheet. This TA is very solid with great lines and gaps. There is no rust or rust repairs and no bubbling or cracked paint. The underside is extremely solid with no rust or corrosion issues and no patches or repairs. This TA was heavily undercoated and rust proofed when new, see all the plugs around the car and the rust proofing decal on the inside of the drivers door. This TA is finished in the desirable color combinations of Solar Gold over Black interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured above and included build sheet. Solar Gold with factory black interior is a rare color combination which is absolutely enticing. The original owners replacement title is photographed below, the original title from 1978 had to be surrendered recently due to age and being outdated. The included build sheet shows the car being sold in Ashtabula, Ohio, matching the city on the title of the original owner.

Exterior

The Solar Gold exterior is in fantastic original condition. This TA has excellent paint for being original with very nice decals which are also original as are the emblems and body moldings. There is no checked or cracked paint or hazing paint which is very common on original painted cars. This car has only had one owner since new and we were told it was stored in a climate controlled building and it shows it. The paint is in very nice overall condition with no signs of visible rust anywhere on the body or underneath and both bumpers are in great shape. There is no bubbling paint anywhere on the body of this car. There may be some minor imperfections that are not noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The Original Uniroyal Steel Belted Radial tires have nearly full tread left and are sized GR 70-15 and the 15″ OEM snowflake wheels are unrestored originals with original center caps and lug nuts. The tires look great and are not dry rotted but they are over 40 years old and not to be used for daily driving or highway driving. They hold air just fine and drive just fine at slower speeds but they are old. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in good original condition. Trunk is very solid and clean and factory correct with the original trunk mat, original spare tire and jack, and the original inflator bottle. The underside of this TA is exceptionally solid with no rust issues or concerns and no patches or repairs. This TA was heavily undercoated when new and all of the undercoating is still present today and has really done its job keeping this car fully rust free. There are several spots underneath showing original factory red primer. Several tags and original markings are still in place throughout the undercarriage.

Interior

The black interior of this Trans Am is in terrific near mint original condition. The original seat covers are in spectacular condition with no noticeable wear or fading or seam splits. These are factory original covers not some cheap aftermarket covers. The carpet is original with no major stains, rips, or holes and is in excellent condition. The original dash is in like new condition with no cracks or warping or fading and the original plastic pieces are still under the metal A pillar trim pieces. The engine turned dash bezel is like new as well and correct and looks beautiful in the car. The original am/fm cassette stereo works great and sounds good and thankfully the dash has not been cut for a modern stereo. The original door panels are in great condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner and package tray are both in excellent condition. The headliner is has no wear and is not sagging at all. All interior and exterior lights and gauges work as they should including the cigarette lighter and the clock. The horn, all gauges, stereo, wipers, rear defrost, and blower motor all work. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. Look how incredibly clean the ash tray is, and I did not even have to clean it.

Mechanical

This TA appears to be in great mechanical condition and the original Pontiac 400 engine is still in the car with matching vin number, see photo. This engine runs very well and the car performs nicely. I have only driven this car sparingly as I want to keep the miles off the car. It always starts easily and goes through high idle at start up to a lower idle as the car warms up. The car is exceptionally dry underneath and I did not have to clean up at all underneath and this TA shows no leaks at all underneath. The stock exhaust is original and factory correct under this TA, and the original cat still remains in place. The muffler has the correct original GM stamp and markings. We have driven this car a few times and it performs well, it does not run hot, it rides tight, and is always a joy to drive. In the video one can observe this car running and driving with no excessive rattles or noises, and the car handles and performs well. This TA is a nice driver that feels good on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time and runs well. The brakes do not pull and stop as they should. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory non AC car which really cleans up the engine bay area and adds to performance. The engine bay is unmolested and factory correct and there are numerous markings, stampings, decals, stickers, factory hoses, original spark plug wires, and correct original emission vacuum hoses. The original rarely seen carb. heat shield is still in place. An original style 4″ air induction flex hose is still in place and hardly ever seen as they easily deteriorate if the car is not super low miles and cared for properly.

In summary this TA is a super low mile legit original one owner car is superb overall condition and what we would call a reference car. A car the car experts examine for correctness and originality.
